Painting Workshop - Prime Pass
Overall Experience
Prime Pass Painting, formerly known as Pop Up Painting, combines guided art classes with various venues across the UK. Our class was held at LEAF restaurant on Smithdown Road in Liverpool. The class we attended was advertised as a 2-hour class but ended up being 3 hours. Everybody paints the same picture, but you don’t have to follow the same colour ways if you want something different. Even though, it is labelled as a ‘Paint and Sip’, there is no expectation of drinking alcohol; you can order what you want from the bar. In my opinion, I found the pace of the class slow and steady at first, but then, as the workshop progressed, the speed amped up, and I found instructions hard to follow. I would return, but with a different instructor.
Things that Stood Out:

The size of our class was only 5 people, including us, so it was quiet and small. This can change depending on how popular the classes are.

The lighting of the restaurant was quite low and dim, which made it difficult to see the canvas and what you were painting.

Something to be mindful of is how messy the classes get; the instructor told me to put our coats out of the way. The instructor splatted paint all over it. The instructor tried to clean it as best they could and was very apologetic.

We found the instructor to be quite direct. After our 15-minute break, waiting for our painting to dry, they rushed through the second part of the class and felt like they just wanted to get home.

Whilst our venue was accessible and had a low sensory demand, each of these classes are in different venues, so please check your venue beforehand.

If you have booked a workshop in LEAF (Smithdown Rd), please be mindful that the parking is very limited and very far from the city centre.

When booking your class on their website, the picture attached to the booking page is the one you will paint.

The price per person was £36 per person, which didn’t include a drink.

Food and drink were available. If you wanted to order food, I would arrive before the class and eat because the kitchen shuts at 8 pm, and it is quite difficult to eat and paint at the same time.

You take the painting home afterwards, and it might still be wet.
