Glass Deva Workshop

Overall Experience

Glass Deva is a shop in Chester, which started as the owner’s hobby to relieve the stress of her job; now it’s a business that provides workshops and handmade gifts. The shop is split into 2 rooms: one is a showroom/shop to view the ready-made glass for gifting, and the other is where you do the workshops. You get a choice of a couple of different things to make: Bookcases, Coasters, jewellery, hanging decorations, small panels, framed art, and Christmas decorations. In my opinion, I would 100% return to do a workshop again because the environment was relaxed and the staff were friendly.

Things that Stood Out:

We went around winter/early springtime, and they provided a heater to keep us warm. As a person who gets cold very easily, I really appreciated that.
There was music playing, but it was on low volume.
There were only 2-3 other groups of three, so it was quite quiet.
Once the person has demonstrated what to do, you are left to get on with it, but if you need help, you have to go into the other room and talk to them in there.
They had a ramp if needed to access the shop, but the toilet didn’t look big enough for the space to manoeuvre a wheelchair. Both of the rooms are on the smaller side, but I am sure if you speak to the staff, they will be able to accommodate.

Things to Know:

There is a multi-storey car park about 5 minutes’ walk from the shop. (New Market Parking). You may need to walk through the Chester market, which is very noisy and busy, but there is a way around the market to avoid this environment.
There were drinks and snacks available.
It is about £30 per person, but when you book, you do have to pay a £5 deposit per person, which gets taken away in the price when you pay.
The shop has floor-to-ceiling glass windows looking out into the street, which can be distracting, but as a person who loves to people-watch, I didn’t mind it. The only thing I would say is that the shop is bright white, with lots of light coming in from the windows. As a person who suffers from bright lights and environments that cause headaches, I had to wear my sunglasses.
Some of the projects required strong fine motor skills as it is small and fiddly parts of glass.
